The Undocumented Fix Nobody Found

How I debugged a broken Wix → Zapier → Kajabi integration using 4 AI tools, independent research, and a trigger string that exists nowhere in the docs.

// Zapier could not detect the Wix form. 8 of 9 forms were invisible.

The Problem

Zapier Couldn't See the Form

I was building a lead capture automation: user submits their name and email on a Wix footer form → Zapier triggers → contact created in Kajabi. Simple in theory.

But when configuring the trigger in Zapier, only one form appeared — a lead magnet form. The footer subscribe form, live since April 2024 with real submissions, was completely invisible. 8 out of 9 forms: gone.

The form was working perfectly. Submissions were being captured in Wix. The Wix app was connected to Zapier. Yet Zapier couldn't find it.

Research Phase

Four AIs. Four Dead Ends.

I consulted four AI tools to get different perspectives. Each gave a technically valid answer. None worked within my constraints.

Claude Rebuild all 9 forms using new Wix Forms system ❌ Too much work
ChatGPT Use Zapier Webhooks to receive form data ❌ Requires paid plan
Grok Switch to Make (Integromat) instead of Zapier ❌ Added complexity
Gemini Use Wix Automations → Kajabi API directly ⚠️ Possible but complex

The AI tools gave me a broad solution space fast. But all of them reasoned from common scenarios. My situation — 9 old forms, free Zapier plan, no rebuild budget — fell outside their training patterns.

The Discovery

Two Form Systems. One Hidden.

I noticed something in Wix's form dashboard: there were two tabs — "Forms" and "Old Forms." My footer subscribe form was under Old Forms.

Wix has two entirely separate form systems. The new system is fully exposed to Zapier. The legacy (old) system is not surfaced in Zapier's UI dropdown at all — even though it still works perfectly on Wix.

Zapier's Wix integration simply doesn't show old forms. But they're still accessible — if you know the exact trigger string to type manually.

z_form_submitted_old_wix_forms_and_payments

By entering this string directly into Zapier's trigger field — bypassing the dropdown entirely — all 9 old Wix forms became accessible immediately. The fix took under 15 minutes once discovered.

// This string appears in no official Zapier or Wix documentation.

Results

Zero Cost. Zero Rebuilds. Fully Working.

The full Wix → Zapier → Kajabi pipeline now runs automatically. Every form submission creates a contact in Kajabi in real time. No manual data entry. No new tools. No extra spend.

Takeaways

What This Taught Me

01
Verify before assuming
The form was capturing submissions fine. Confirming that early narrowed the failure to the integration layer specifically — not the form, not Kajabi.
02
AI tools are research accelerators, not oracles
Four tools, four valid-but-wrong answers for my constraints. The real fix required going beyond their suggestions entirely. They got me to the right neighborhood — I had to find the door.
03
Constraints drive creativity
No budget and no rebuild appetite forced me to keep looking instead of settling. The constraint was the feature.
04
Document the undocumented
The trigger string exists nowhere in official docs. Finding it and sharing it turns a personal win into something useful for everyone facing the same wall.
05
Technical fluency unlocks PM effectiveness
No engineer needed. Understanding APIs, triggers, and integrations at a conceptual level was enough to diagnose and fix the problem independently.
